A bit of history
The birth of Pictureka
Pictureka did not start out under the name “Pictureka”. In fact, it was launched by Lauwers Games under the name ‘Project X’. The game was invented by Belgian game inventor Arne Lauwers. It was a multilingual version intended for the European & US market.
Project X was created in 2005 and launched in 2006 in Belgium, The Netherlands, France, Germany, Austria & Italy on toy fairs and at the Chicago toy fair.
How did Project X become Pictureka?
It did not take long for Hasbro to see the potential of the game and they soon contacted the inventor, Arne Lauwers. Thus, Arne signed a license agreement with Hasbro. Hasbro choose Pictureka as the brand name.
Has the inventor of Pictureka, Arne Lauwers, made other games?
Yes, he has made several other games and even a whole fantasy world including stories, that are also available for licensing. An overview can be found on this website.
Who distributes and produces Pictureka?
This is now all done by Hasbro. The game is available in many countries on many continents and has won many awards. The brand is very much alive and you can expect more to come. For the latest news on Pictureka and its availability go to hasbro.com.

How many versions are there of Pictureka?
The Pictureka license started out with the board game simply named ’Pictureka’. It was an exact copy of Project X, as invented by Arne Lauwers.
In the years that followed Hasbro added a 2nd and a 3rd edition to the Pictureka brand. The third edition was launched in the US in the summer of 2021.
Besides the Pictureka board games, Hasbro also brought a number of spin offs of Pictureka to the market like Pictureka Flipper Game, Pictureka card game, Pictureka jigsaw puzzles and even a game show for kids based on Pictureka. Pictureka! was also included in Hasbro Family Game Night 2, developed for the Wii by EA Games. Pictureka! even has its own game show now on the Hub.
